Art Journal page for new monthly challenge for Katzelkraft!

Today, you may enjoy my struggle playing with this art journal page.
It didn't turn out as I imagined it, but, as I promised myself, I will show everything here.
Maybe you can give me some good advice?

It has to be for two purposes, my tutorial for the new monthly Katzelkraft challenge-
A COLORed WINTER...

AND

for week 25 at Journal52 INPIRED BY NATURE..
O, you may think, I thought you finished all the pages for Journal52, Ellie?!
YES, I thought so, but as I was binding the pages, I couldn't find the page for week 25. Then I discovered that I missed out on it...

Let these photographs speak for themselves, I'll add a few details.

Adhere some pre-colored paper to the background.

Add gesso to tone-down the edges.

Add background stamping

Add more stamping.... and this is where things started to be grrrrr...the stamping was not to my satisfaction; the pre-colored paper has a structure to it. Normally I would fussy cut the stamped image, but that is just not possible for the trees and branches. ...

....so.... cover it with some white acrylic paint..

..and  draw the branches and trees with a black acrylic marker.
Add highlights with a white one. (I use ones from Molotow). Also add more color with the direct-to-paper technique with distress inks.
Add a 'fence', this is some cheap plastic 'wire' I bought a while ago.
Sponge a sun with a mask.

I added fussycut cats for on the fence, and also stamped some birds.
At this stage I thought - this is going into the waste bin....too much black, too much detail... grrrr...

I decided I was to cut off part of it... and now I am not really satisfied with it, it will have to do..

Any tips for me?

Maybe I could've added some snow falling down...

I am entering this in the challnge on
1. Country view challenges- use something new (NEW = the netting with snow on it AND using pre-colored paper as a start for the page)

STAMPS USED: all from Katzelkraft

  2. Leuk gedaan. Het zijn niet helemaal mijn kleurtjes maar ik vind het wel een heel leuk geheel. Vooral de sneeuw in jouw hekwerk vind ik geweldig. En de katten er bovenop maken het af. Gr. GZ

  5. I love the layer of the pre-coloured paper, and I think the black silhouettes work really well against the glorious sky. Really interesting to read the process - I'm always more about the journey than the destination! - maybe for you it's just not finished yet, and something else will change the next time you look at it.

  6. I too love those cats against the beautiful colours in your sky. I haven't got to grips with journalling at all so would not be able to give tips - not sure you need them either!
