Book 16 - for series 52

week 16 : book 16. 

This time a booklet that has a recycled cover (I used the cover of a booklet and gave it a new jacket!), with a binding that was first glued and then sown.  LOVE it!





It measures 6 x 7 centimeters
and has recycled paper in it from 'old' photobooks. 

I created the cover with watercolorpaper ...
I stamped on it with versamark and heat embossed it with white WOW embossing powder. 

I've used most of the stamps in these sets from AALL&Create to stamp with:

After the heat setting I colored the background with 

Nuance in the following colors :

MNU012, MNU016 and MNU003.

The ribbon has also been colored with these Nuance colors! 

I've used part of this background to adhere to the cover and binded the booklet. 

From the leftover piece of background I punched circles (in different sizes) and used two on the front of the book. 

I stamped part of the scissors stamp with Archival Jet black ink on the front cover and circles. 

To make the circles stand out I've covered it with Glossy Accents from Ranger.

I am happy with the result!!

Using a diecut as a stencil!

TIP: This is good use of diecuts, as you use the leftover of the cardstock as a  stencil. The sky is the limit with this option. 

 Diecut the Memory Box (no 98506) from a sturdy piece of cardstock. 

Use the leftover as a stencil to sponge on a piece of scrapbookpaper (Magenta) with Distress inks as shown. 

Spray some pearl spray over the background to give it shimmer. 

Add some dots with a Perlen-Pen. 

 Color the flower from the diecut with the same colors of Distress inks and cover it with Glossy Accents. 

Add some doodling with a white acrylic marker to add interest. 

Assemble as shown. 

I've also done some sponging on the inside of the card.

My tag for the April challenge in the 12 tags of 2016 from Tim Holtz!

I've matted the tag onto black cardstock- gives it some more definition! 

... pssssst - and to be honest, the backside of the tag was not clean after all the messiness, so this way nobody will ever know that! 

As you might notice, I've used white paper as base for the mosaic.

The Original Documented Life Project - week 12

Are you ready for an art journal page ? 

Real messy, and a lot of steps! So grab some coffee! 

For my LOVE of stencils and color!

NOTE - I use a bigger page, but narrow it down with sticky paper to 18 by 25 centimeters. It gives a white edge to the art journal page. I kind of like that! 

Steps picture 1.

Add a layer of gesso to the page. Leave to dry. 

Cut a swirl out of magazine paper, and adhere it to your page. Leave to dry. 

Dab black acrylic paint through the Sketch Grid stencil. Leave to dry. 

Scribble marks on the background, I used a black pen to scribble some journaling. 

Add a black edge to the swirl with a black acrylic pen. 

Steps picture 2.

Sponge yellow and green acrylic paint to the background with the Harlequin stencil. 

Remove the stencil. 

Use the same sponge to color some areas with the same colors of acrylic paints.  

Steps picture 3. 

Sponge with distress ink worn lipstick over the background. Don't fill it all up. 

Spray water at the top of the page and let the water run downwards on your page. It will make your distress ink run. 

Leave to dry. 

 Steps picture 4.

Add some white gesso over the page to tone down some areas with an old credit card. Scribble in it with the edge of the card to add some texture! Leave to dry.

Adhere torn strips of tissue wrap to the left side as shown. 

Add gesso with a tip to the edges of the upper part of the swirl, to accentuate the edge. Leave to dry. 

Accentuate the rest of the edges of the swirl with a white acrylic marker. 

Steps picture 5. 

Add watered-down blue acrylic to the upper part of the swirl, and dry brush it to the edges of the page as well! 

Splat some blue paint to the page. 

Leave to dry.
Remove the sticky paper, see how crisp the edges of the page are now? 

Picture 6.   

Finished? No!

 Steps picture 7. 

Add some color to a few of the sequins with a watercolor pencil to make them pop. Doodle around the sequins and the stencilled harlequins with a white acrylic marker!

At this stage I added in writing : 

" Life is... focussing on what matters ! "

Steps picture 8. 

Cut out a few more sequins from the magazine page and adhere to left hand side of the page to get some balance to the page.  Cover them with watered down gesso. Leave to dry. To make them pop too, see steps with picture 7. 

Cover all the sequins with glossy accents to make them glossy and stand out. 

Adhere 3 custom made clay buttons to the page. 

Tie scrappers' floss to the holes of the buttons.

DONE!

To be able to see the depth, I added a light source to photograph the page. 

Look at those yummy buttons. 

 They were stamped into (with my own text stamp!) before the clay air dryed. 

 Look at all that rich color!

I LOVE the effect of the glossy accents, but look at the stencilled harlequins as well! They're awesome!

Start with a slab of wood...

....cover it with some layers of gesso, (I did it with my finger) 

 ...stamp the music and script onto some blotting paper...

...tear the blotting paper into smaller pieces...  

... adhere them on top of the drie gesso with multi medium matte... 

.. leave to dry, or dry with heat tool ... 

.... tear away the excess ...

...stamp the branch onto a seperate piece of cardstock, and fussy cut it ...

...color it with (Faber and Castell) watercolor pencils.. 

...adhere it to the base with 3D glue... 

...add some Glossy Accents to where the berries are, and pour some tiny little glass beads over it; tap off excess...
.color the edges of the plaque with (Faber and Castell) watercolor pencils.. 

...cover the leaves allover with Glossy Accents and leave to dry. .. 

... attach some thread colored with watercolor pencils...

 (the Glossy Accents is not dry yet, that's why it looks milky)

and I have finished a second one ...

This was the first one I did: 

I am going to use it as a christmas "card" for somebody, the wishes are being written on the back. Isn't that nice...a gift instead of a card!?

Butterfly, flutter by please...

 I know, these are unusual colors for me... but I have to use all my supplies, don't I?

I've used 'Te gekke krijtjes' (yellow and white) to make a resist after I embossed the cardstock, and before spraying it.
