Art Journalen / Art Journaling day 8 "Natuur"

  For me art journaling is playing with product without any rules. 

I started in a new journal and hope to fill it with a lot of pleasure, no time limit, no pressure. 
Using up some of my collage fodder in the process is a plus +

It's called "Natuur" dutch for Nature.... 

This page depicts my love for nature, created by our Father in Heaven so beautifully. The pictures are from a book I purchased from a thrift store called Flowering Plants Of the World by V.H. Heywood. 
I bought a second book one of this book (this time a dutch version) also from a thrift store, and chose the lesser one for ripping pages out, which turned out to be the english version. When I had only one copy, I could just not start on ripping pages out, lol. 

It has a ton of beautiful illustrations!! Grab a copy if you can find one, if you collage fodder to be used in creating. I paid 8 euro for the english version, and only 1 euro for the dutch one. There are several copies online varying from around 10 euro to prices I would never pay for second-hand book.  

Coring the background has been done with Twinkling H2o watercolors.

Row of Textured Houses - 2

This card has a little bit of a history; one I did not see coming, lol. 

Earlier this week I decided I would want to use the Textured Houses stamp set for today's post. Got me thinking to search for a suitable background: something with blue on it for clouds and yellow to make it a sunny card. I found a background in my stash, a quite big one of which I cut backgrounds for 2 cards. 
Then suddenly I had an AHA moment: I've done this before! Same idea, same colors and same stamps in this post!!

 I stuck to my plan and decided to not fussycut the houses,
but stamp them directly onto the background. 

The HOW-TO from here onward: 
- Stamp the tiny houses and stars onto the background and heat emboss with clear. 
- Color the houses with watercolors. 

- Add white accents with a .. 

... gelly roller. 

- Add a pavement with the bricks stamp. 

- Stamp some Mixed Media stamping onto the edges of the scene. 

- Cut the background to size and adhere to the card base.

My Creative Monday for Magenta - Flower heart

To start this card I made a monoprint with a lot of thin dried layers of Fresco Finish paint on the gelliplate. 
Add extra color to the image, add script to the background and shadow around the images.

My Creative Monday for Magenta - Playful cards

Cards recycled from my art journal that fell apart.. a spread makes for 2 very playful cards. The base of the background was a cleanup page from gelli printing. 

I did some transfers with packing tape from a local grocerie shop.. being the pear and orange in the collage. 

Can you tell I really like the leaf stamps in this range?

My Creative Monday for Magenta - negative watercoloring

I found this technique from The Homegrown Artist on You Tube,
and decided I can use masks and stencils to achieve the same effect.

Enjoy the process. I used a pearlescent watercolor to make the first card.

Start on a colorful background, not one with too dark colors. 

Draw the lines of the stencil with a pencil and fill in the negative space with a fairly light blue watercolor, the same tint of blue used in the background. Add a darker line with a fineliner; I used black but you can use any color of course.

Reposition the stencil at a different angle, and draw the lines of a second layer of leaves, fill in the negative space with a slightly darker blue watercolor. 

Repeat the process until you are happy with the intensity and contrasts of the leaves.

This is the first card I've made with the technique; for the first layer I used the masks to sponge around it with Distress Inks.
For more dimension I used a pink Posca acrylic marker. Only 2 layers on this one.

I had a mixed media christmas background, and thought to use (one of) these beautiful leaves on it... .
BUT .. none of them pop on this background.. so time for

...Plan B.. 4 autumnal cards..
all leaves were colored with Twinkling H20 watercolor paints..
